The Nixon Report - All the news from the Women's Super League

Updated: Jan 30

Wigan Warriors have announced the signing of hooker Remi Wilton from York Valkyrie – she has played Rugby League and Rugby Union in Australia, featuring for Canberra Raiders. She has also represented Australia A in Rugby Union.

The Warriors have also signed second rower Emily Veivers from the BMD Premiership, which is Queensland’s major rugby league competition. She played for Brisbane Tigers and Norths Devils and is a PNG international.

Huddersfield Giants have signed Irish international Fran Copley from Featherstone Rovers and Eva Izumi from York. Both outside backs, Copley scored two tries in 14 appearances for Rovers and Izumi made nine appearances for York.

Another player to leave Featherstone is Tally Bryer, who has gone to Leeds Rhinos as a possible replacement in the halves for Caitlin Casey, who has gone to Saints. Bryer was one of Rovers’ players of the season last year.

London Bronco’s centre and player of the season Nicole Kennedy – who featured against Warrington in last season’s Challenge Cup – is also rumoured to be a target for the Rhinos.

Warrington Wolves are continuing their rebuild after losing several players since the end of last season either to long-term injury, to other clubs or retirement. New head coach Ged Ginty has been instrumental in bringing in Sydney Alderman, Emma Knowles, Abbie Singleton, Arabella Reed and Liv Argent from Wigan; Charlotte Nixon and Amber Harmon from Saints; Hannah Goddard from Huddersfield Giants; Hollie Gregory from Leigh Miners, and Nia Rowlands, Ellie Dooney and Regan Davis from rugby union.

In other news, Hollie Mae-Dodd has signed a two-year extension on her deal with Canberra Raiders.

And finally, Barrow Raiders’ coach Amanda Wilkinson has backed the newly promoted Leigh Leopards to do well in this year’s Super League. Barrow finished an impressive fifth last year and Wilkinson believes there are no reasons why Leigh cannot do as well in this year’s competition.
