Paul Rowley is Back!
The Castleford Tigers get their man.
Paul Rowley’s first interview as Tigers boss makes one thing clear: he understands the challenge ahead, respects the club’s proud heritage and is ready to roll up his sleeves to bring improvement to Castleford.
Here are some of the key takeaways from his opening comments:
🔶 CONSISTENCY IS KEY – Paul recognises the gap between Castleford’s best and worst performances last season and is determined to close it, delivering greater consistency in results and performances.
🔶 HARD WORK AND DEFENSIVE STEEL – Improving fitness, work ethic, resilience and defensive intensity are high on his priority list. He wants a team that disrupts opponents, takes away their thinking time and fights for every inch.
🔶 BRAVE, ENTERTAINING RUGBY – Rowley praised aspects of Castleford’s attacking play last season and wants to build on those strengths, encouraging skill, execution and bravery with the ball rather than ripping everything up and starting again.
🔶 PRIDE IN THE BADGE – He wants a team that represents Castleford and its supporters with pride, delivering performances the town can recognise and get behind week in, week out.
🔶 UNITY AND LEADERSHIP – Trust, strong relationships and leadership within the playing group will be central to his approach. His message is simple: when Castleford win, everyone wins; when Castleford lose, everyone loses.
🔶 STRENGTHENING THE SQUAD – He has identified areas for potential recruitment, particularly in the back row and middle unit, while recognising the quality already available in the outside backs.
🔶 INVESTING IN HOMEGROWN TALENT – Rowley also understands the importance of developing Castleford’s youngsters and creating a realistic pathway into the first team, pointing to the leading academies in Super League as benchmarks.
🔶 A CLEAR MESSAGE TO THE FANS – Keep supporting the club through the highs and lows. Rowley wants to build a strong connection between the team and the town, with supporters seeing a side that is united, committed and always willing to fight.
🐯 OUR MESSAGE TO PAUL
On behalf of everyone at Super League Raw, congratulations on your appointment, Paul, and the very best of luck as you begin this exciting new chapter.
There will undoubtedly be doubters, and nobody is pretending that turning things around in an increasingly competitive Betfred Super League will be easy. However, we are confident that Paul has the experience, determination and coaching philosophy to prove those doubters wrong and bring meaningful improvement to the Tigers.
The Castleford faithful don't demand miracles overnight. They want commitment, consistency, pride in the shirt and a team prepared to fight for the badge. From this first interview, those values appear firmly at the heart of Rowley’s plans.
The challenge is set. The hard work begins. And if Paul can build the unity, resilience and consistency he speaks about, there is every reason for Castleford supporters to look towards 2027 with renewed optimism.
Good luck, Paul. We look forward to seeing the Tigers roar again! 🐯🏉
