Marc Sneyd is a Wire - Warrington Wolves make the Salford Red Devils an offer they couldn't refuse

Warrington Wolves have secured the services of Marc Sneyd from the Salford Red Devils with his debut pencilled in for the Round 5 game vs St Helens. Sneyd will join up with his new teammates immediately but will not be eligible to play against the Widnes Vikings on Saturday. However, Sneyd is not cup-tied, as he did not participate for Salford in the third round against the Midlands Hurricanes. Therefore, should Warrington prevail over the Vikings this weekend, he will be eligible to compete in the quarter-finals.

On November 5, 2021, Sneyd signed a three-year contract with Salford, commencing in the 2022 season. In Round 26 of the same season, he showcased his skills by scoring two tries and successfully converting nine goals in Salford's impressive 50-10 victory over Castleford. In Round 5 of the 2023 Super League season, Sneyd demonstrated his clutch performance by kicking the winning drop goal during golden point extra time, securing a victory against Wakefield Trinity. Throughout the 2023 Super League season, Sneyd participated in 19 matches for Salford, as the team concluded the season in seventh place, ultimately missing the playoffs.

Last season, Sneyd delivered an outstanding performance, significantly contributing to the Red Devils' achievement of a 4th place finish in the Super League. Unfortunately, their journey ended in the first playoff match against the Leigh Leopards. Sneyd's exceptional individual efforts earned him the Albert Goldthorpe Medal for 2024, during which he scored 3 tries, provided 22 assists, executed 4 drop goals, and successfully converted 97 out of 109 attempts.

The Best of Sneyd 2024 from our frends at JBP Sports Edits

Prior to joining the Salford Red Devils, Sneyd played for Hull FC from 2016 to 2021. In his debut year, 2016, he distinguished himself as the league's top goal-kicker, successfully converting 130 goals. He played a pivotal role in Hull's triumph in the Challenge Cup, contributing two goals in their narrow 12-10 victory over his new club the Warrington Wolves at Wembley Stadium. For his outstanding performance, Sneyd was named man of the match and awarded the esteemed Lance Todd Trophy.

In February 2017, he extended his contract with Hull until 2019. He again showcased his skills by winning the Challenge Cup in 2017, leading Hull to an 18-14 victory over the record-holding Wigan Warriors. Notably, Sneyd became the second player in history to win the Lance Todd Trophy consecutively, further solidifying his legacy in the sport.

Sneyd's arrival at Warrington Wolves is expected to enhance game management, bringing a level of organization and composure during crucial moments. This transition will likely alleviate George Williams of certain responsibilities on the field, enabling him to express his flair and improvisational style in Rugby League. However, a potential drawback may be the impact on Leon Hayes in the medium term, as Sneyd is unlikely to assume a bench role. Exciting developments are unfolding at the Wire!

SALFORD RED DEVILS - CLUB STATEMENT – MARC SNEYD

13 March 2025

Salford Red Devils can confirm that Marc Sneyd will depart the Club to join Warrington Wolves.

The Club received two approaches for the scrum-half this week and on discussion with the player have agreed a deal with the Super League side for an undisclosed fee.

After communication with the ownership group, the Club finds itself in a position where significant funds have been further delayed. In order to field a competitive team that is able to meet the sustainability cap, this decision has been reached in the best interest of all parties.

Sneyd has enjoyed two spells at the Club after coming through the junior ranks in 2010. After his initial three-year stay, he returned to the Club in 2022, making 83 appearances across another three years, winning the Coaches’ and Players’ Player of the Year in 2024.

During that time, Sneyd has racked up 844 points, and become Salford’s all-time top Super League points scorer in the process, overtaking Steve Blakeley.

Marc had this message for our supporters:

“It’s with a heavy heart that I’ve had to make the tough decision to leave Salford in pursuit of a new opportunity. I want to go on record in thanking everyone who has made returning here so memorable and wish the Club nothing but the best in the future.

“To the lads – past and present – Paul Rowley and his coaching team, and the backroom staff, it has been a pleasure to play and work alongside you every day – I hope everything works out for everybody.

“A final big thank you to the fans. Your constant support has meant the world and it’s always appreciated whenever I took the field.”

Everyone at Salford Red Devils would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the Club.
