IT’S KICK-OFF DAY! THE WORLD CUP IS HERE
AUSTRALIA v NEW ZEALAND — 10:05 THIS MORNING LIVE ON PREMIER SPORT
The Rugby League World Cup kicks off this morning with one of the fiercest rivalries in world sport. Australia against New Zealand. Two rugby league powerhouses. Collision after collision. Lightning-fast play. Jaw-dropping skill. Incredible athleticism. And the kind of intensity that leaves you breathless.
And yet, somehow, rugby league remains one of the best-kept sporting secrets in the world.
Here in the UK, a tournament showcasing some of the greatest athletes on the planet has been crying out for promotion. The BBC has declined to bid for the live broadcasting rights, with highlights instead being made available on the Red Button. Another missed opportunity to put our incredible sport in front of a mainstream audience and inspire the next generation of supporters.
Credit where it’s due, Premier Sports has stepped up to broadcast the tournament, with predominantly Australian coverage, which is a good thing as they know how to bring the action, atmosphere and expertise this competition deserves.
But let's be absolutely clear about one thing…
RUGBY LEAGUE SELLS ITSELF WHEN PEOPLE ACTUALLY GET TO WATCH IT
It is brutal yet beautiful. Powerful yet skilful. Relentlessly fast, tactically fascinating and packed with moments of individual brilliance. These athletes take extraordinary punishment, get back to their feet and get on with the job. No Oscar-winning auditions required!
If you've never watched rugby league, this is your invitation.
If you think you've seen it all, give this World Cup a chance to change your mind. Dont let this tournament pass you by. Find out where to watch, tune in and experience the speed, skill, courage and passion for yourself.
And if you're already one of us, let's make some noise, spread the word and show the world what it has been missing!
