Sam Burgess - Everything he said from his pre-match press conference
What’s the update on George?
Burgess: It’s not good. He’s going for surgery tomorrow and will be out for eight to 10 weeks.
What’s the surgery?
Burgess: It’s on his ankle. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but he’s going to get surgery. It’s unstable. It happened in the last four to five minutes of Saturday’s game which is disappointing. That’s the game. He’s already positive about it and looking at his return and hopefully when he can get back. And he’s thinking about ways in which he can help the group. We’ll manage it as a club
How are you feeling for him?
Burgess: As I would for everyone else, disappointed. I’m gutted for George. He’s playing some great rugby and getting some consistency. Obviously him and Marc were building their combination with Danny Walker and Sam Powell. Whenever there’s injuries, there’s always opportunities for somebody else. This will give someone else a role, to come through and take over.
So who comes in for the Leigh game?
Burgess: We’ve got a couple of options, just depending on how we want to play. We’ve trained a couple of different ways this week and I’ll be clearer about that later in the week. We’ve still got another session to go and I’m not concrete on who that is.
How hard is it to start again with a new half-back partnership part way through the year?
Burgess: We don’t see it as hard, we see it as an exciting challenge. The guys have really embraced the change. Of course everyone wants George to play, but he’s not playing so we’ve got to deal with that pretty quickly. So whoever’s coming in there, there’s a bit of excitement and some enjoyment around a few different combinations. It means Matt Dufty, Danny Walker, Sam Powell stepping up a bit more and Marc Sneyd will take control. We’re actually going to enjoy trying to develop as a group without George.
What are the other ins and outs?
Jimmy Harrison will be a couple of weeks maybe at least. He's got a shoulder injury that's been going on for a while. It's on the front part of his shoulder and something he's been carrying. We've finally got it scanned and it's a bit worse than we thought. He's seeing a specialist later in the week. Certainly he'll miss this week and we'll just see how we manage that going forward. His time out is a bit inconclusive.
It's not good news either about Cai. He'll be sidelined for a while, it's a bad injury and will be in rehab for a while - three or four months at least. I don't want to say anything that's incorrect because he has an appointment with a specialist later today to make a decision on where we go with it. But all roads are pointing towards a hamstring reconstruction. For a kid of his age, his speed, he'll do well to play again this year.
Toby will play this week, as it stands, so that will be a welcome addition, I think we'll get Ben Currie back through the middle at some point, whether he starts on the edge and goes in there is something we're still toying with. But he'll be playing as a forward for the first time in about seven or eight weeks.
