On 10 June 2025, Sir Billy Boston, arguably one of the greatest to ever grace a rugby field became the first Rugby League player in history to be knighted. This was a long time coming, too long in my opinion, not just for Sir Billy, but for the sport as a whole. This game is the first one that Wigan will have on home turf since the historical, monumentous occasion and so Wigan will be making this a special tribute to the great man of the newly named Sir Billy Boston East Stand.

Now, I get it. Wigan is the Marmite of Rugby League. You hate us or adore us (but never ignore us) so none Wigan fans will think “go to watch Wigan pfft no thanks” and I get that. But this is a historical moment for Rugby League and this is a moment for the sport. Out of respect for the great Sir Billy Boston, I have a simple request. If you are a Giants fan, please get your ticket to this game. If you are a Wigan fan (especially if you're a Wigan fan), please buy tickets to this game. If you love your rugby league and you're not at Headingly for Leeds v Saints, please buy a ticket to this game.

The country has finally honoured a legend and it should only be right that the Rugby League community sells out the Brick Community Stadium for this legend of our game, to appreciate his accomplishments on the pitch, to show our respect to newly knighted Sir Billy Boston and make this something special for him, and lets be fair you could very well be treated to a very exciting game of Rugby League, the greatest sport on Earth and lets celebrate the legacy and the achievement of this great man.
